Solving big challenges is what gets him out of bed. He is an energetic, enthusiastic leader and is passionate about finding ideas and new ways to grow brands. Working with clients on their business is still what gets him excited and motivated and creating the best environment for people to thrive in.
He has spent 25 years in the advertising/communications industry and has run business’s in the UK, Singapore and Sydney. Prior to starting The Works, Damian held senior creative positions at global agencies TBWA, Batey and JWT. He has worked across many categories and led brands including Cadbury, Heineken, Nestle, Tiger Beer, Skoda, Jim Beam, Canadian Club, First State Super, Masterpet, Allianz Retire + and Brother. He has also been recognized in the industry winning creative and effectiveness awards including D&AD, Cannes, NY Festivals, Award, Kinsale, ADMA, Global Effies, Grand Effie and gold, silver and bronze Effies.
Like a few start-ups you might have heard of, The Works began with little more than the passion of two entrepreneurial, creative people. It started on the streets of Sydney, in a van driven from client meetings to shops with shelves full of products. It was seen parked beach-front locations where Kevin and Damian came up with ideas and solutions before driving back to the client to present. This humble approach of creatives working directly with clients combined with really getting to know clients’ products and services and how and when consumers bought and used them – what today we might call data – shaped our unique ‘Creatives on the Forefront’ model.
The Works has been recognized in the industry across AsiaPac as a leader, winning and being nominated in Best Place to Work, Adnews, Mumbrella, B&T Awards and Campaign Asia. Some highlights include Grand Effie Canadian Club (long term effectiveness), Effie winner launch of Black Hawk Petcare, The Works recognised in the top 10 Best Places to Work, B&T Brand, Design and CX Agency.
Damian is passionate about helping young people. Currently President of Council at Manly Vale PSS he has steered the school through a $44million redevelopment. And has recently started with an aboriginal community in East Arnhem Land to launch a social and sustainable enterprise on the advisory group of Knowledge Water.
