The General Store Unveils Crazy Campaign For Supercheap Auto

A new TV campaign for Supercheap Auto launches this week featuring a high performance driving team and a semi-trailer pulling off a precision drift.

The ad promotes the retailer’s high performing oil category. It was filmed in regional QLD with a group of elite precision drivers from films like Mad Max Fury Road and The Matrix.

Andrew Ostrom, executive creative director at The General Store said: “Customers who shop the oil category at Supercheap Auto are real car enthusiasts, so we wanted to give them what they love… cars performing at the limits of their capability.”

David Bauer, marketing manager at Supercheap Auto said: “As soon as we saw this concept from The General Store, we knew it would strike a chord with our customers. The four branded vehicles doing high performance precision driving is a memorable device for dramatising our oil range.”

Andrew Ostrom explains that the ad was incredibly challenging from a production point of view. “Two days, five of the best precision drivers in the country, nine cameras and 93 sets of tyres. Curious really smashed this one out of the park.”

The spot is directed by Julius Avery and is his first commercial since the launch of his acclaimed feature film ‘Son of a Gun’.

Peter Grasse, executive producer at Curious said: “This concept was the perfect opportunity to get Julius back into adland. We pulled together a stellar team including legendary stunt drivers, Mick & Karl Van Moorsel, and some of the world’s best production crew.”

The campaign goes live this week on TV and online.
